EP Group – Graduate Engineer

EP Group is an award winning, global packaging manufacturer with production facilities across Europe and Southeast Asia.

Our global headquarters in Birmingham is home to our dedicated paper manufacturing division providing a wide range of food packaging products for the likes of McDonalds, Amazon, Marks & Spencer and Greggs.

We are now seeking an Entry Level Engineer to be based on site here in Birmingham. This is a development role for someone looking to train and learn on the job, to progress into an Engineer role. There will also be the opportunity to gain additional qualifications and training to support career development and learning.

The role would suit a graduate or apprentice who is looking to progress their career at pace.

Role Purpose:

Work side by side with the Crane Engineering and Maintenance Team who are responsible for the 33M narrow aisle cranes and their associated conveyor systems. Undertake internal and external training to enable career development into a Crane Engineer position. 

Key Accountabilities – Graduate Engineer:

Work with the Crane Maintenance team who manage business critical equipment to support the following activities:

  • Maintenance, servicing and overhauling of Highbay cranes including mechanical breakdowns such as drive replacements, bearings, gearing, roller systems

  • Manage electrical repairs and installations including new installations and existing equipment upgrades to ensure equipment is up to industry standards.

  • Work closely with the warehouse supervisors and management team to supply the agreed level of service to existing clients.

  • Attend breakdowns within agreed SLAs to ensure timely resolution and avoid any delays to the customer.

  • Changing and programming inverters and other control systems.

  • Keeping PPM’s complete to a high standard and up to date.

Essential Experience / Special requirements:

  • Graduate or Apprentice in mechanical and electrical engineering or someone with previous work experience in a manufacturing or warehouse environment City & Guilds Level 1 in Mechanical Manufacturing Engineering or equivalent qualification

  • Fast learner who is looking to progress and undertake training and development

  • PLC experience highly desirable e.g. Siemens

  • Mechanically biased but with some electrical knowledge

  • Excellent technical knowledge

  • The ability to prioritise and plan effectively

  • A good level of computer literacy

  • Good commercial awareness

    The ability to work under pressure and to deadlines

  • Good problem-solving skills and a creative approach for new ideas

  • Very good time-management skills and a high work ethic

  • Be able to work at Height

  • Understanding of Warehouse management system

  • Excellent communication and team working skills
